As we close out Women’s History Month, Khayla Murray, 9th grade, chorus student at South Paulding High School , has this to say to Georgia lawmakers about education and school choice!
Pakistani activist for female education Malala Yousafzai once said,
“Education is education. We should learn everything and then choose which path to follow.”
Education is neither Eastern nor Western, it is human.”
Very few lawmakers choose to view education in this way.
In fact, most see education as nothing more than another way to make millions of dollars.
Not even taking into consideration the people who conceptualize education in a euphoric light.
So, how does this relate to school choice and the need for equitable funding for all public schools?
The answer is quite clear.
We need people who are compassionate to help get the idea out there.
If all public schools had equitable funding hundreds of thousands of children would be provided with a more quality education.
School choice is important as well because it embraces diversity in a unique way.
As Malala stated, education is human and humans are all extremely different.
No one person is exactly the same and the same should go for education.
Everyone is different and everyone doesn’t learn in just one way!
So if Georgia lawmakers won’t make school choice a priority, we have too!
Maybe we should!
If we do not take matters into our own hands nothing will change.
In the words of Sojourner Truth, “If women want any rights more than they’s got, why don’t they just take them, and not be talking about it.”
